History and Heritage:
 
Originally known as Milliken’s Corners, the hamlet was founded in 1807 by Norman Milliken, a United Empire Loyalist from New Brunswick. He settled on Lot 1 Concession V, Markham, and quickly established a successful saw mill on the banks of the Little Rouge River. This mill became the nucleus of a burgeoning community, which soon included a church, two blacksmith shops, a wagon maker, two hotels, and two general stores.
