Angus Glen has grown quickly, and local families have felt it. Students who live in the future boundary of this new school are currently held at Buttonville Public School while they wait for a school of their own.

That wait now has a proposed end date. Angus Glen South Elementary School has a proposed opening of September 2028, with room for 637 students and 48 licensed child care spaces. Local reporting describes it as a school for the fast growing Angus Glen community.

Here is what sets it apart. Most new schools in this series are still waiting on a boundary review. Angus Glen South already has an approved boundary. That gives buyers and sellers something rare: a clear answer today about which streets the school will serve.

This post is part of the Kaizen Real Estate Team guide to new schools coming to Markham from 2027 to 2030. Below, Michael John Lau, REALTOR®, sets out the published facts and what they mean if you own, plan to buy, or plan to sell nearby.

Location

The school block sits at York Downs Boulevard and Harvey Bunker Crescent, in the area near the northwest corner of 16th Avenue and Kennedy Road in Markham. It is in the Angus Glen community.

YRDSB has not published a civic address for the school yet, so this post does not list one. The street names above are the most reliable published location.

Status and Timeline

Angus Glen South is funded, and the Province has authorized YRDSB to tender the project. Here is the published path:

  • June 2024: YRDSB approved the attendance boundary.
  • Funding: The Province committed $30.3 million, including an additional $374,923.
  • October 15, 2026: Bid date shown in public construction listings.
  • November 2026: Construction start shown in the same listings.
  • April 1, 2028: Building ready for takeover, with the contract complete by July 31, 2028, according to those listings.
  • September 2028: Proposed opening.
Please note: YRDSB states that all school opening dates are subject to the timing of municipal and ministry approvals through the construction process. Every date in this post is a proposed date, not a promise.

Construction dates above come from public construction listings, not YRDSB. For official updates, check the YRDSB New and Replacement Schools page.

Programs and Specialization

YRDSB has not published any specialized program for Angus Glen South, such as French Immersion, arts, STEM or gifted programming.

What is known is the mix of spaces inside the building. Public construction listings describe 29 teaching spaces, including:

  • 18 classrooms
  • 6 Kindergarten rooms
  • An art room
  • A science room
  • An instrumental music room

The listings also allow for 6 future portables. Room types describe the building, not the program. If a specific program matters to your family, wait for an official YRDSB announcement before you make a decision tied to it.

Boundary and Catchment

YRDSB approved the Angus Glen South boundary in June 2024. You can view the official boundary map on the YRDSB School Locator site.

The map references streets including Muirfield Trail and Kennedy Road. Review the full map rather than relying on one street name, since a boundary line can run between nearby blocks.

Until the school opens, students who live inside this boundary are held at Buttonville Public School. A holding school is the school students attend until their new school is ready. For a specific address, use the YRDSB School Locator or email YRDSB Planning Services at planning.services@yrdsb.ca.

Capacity and Grades

Angus Glen South will have capacity for 637 students. Construction listings describe a two storey building of about 65,308 square feet.

The school will also include 48 licensed child care spaces. YRDSB has not published the age groups the child care will serve or who will operate it yet.

YRDSB has not published the grade range yet. The six Kindergarten rooms point to Kindergarten classes, but the full grade range should be confirmed with YRDSB.

What It Means for Home Buyers and Sellers

An approved boundary changes the conversation. Instead of guessing, families can check a map.

If you are buying

Because the boundary is approved, you can check an address today. If you plan to move before September 2028, expect students in the boundary to attend Buttonville Public School in the meantime, and confirm current assignments with YRDSB.

Michael John Lau suggests treating the boundary, the holding school and the child care plan as three separate questions. Each one has its own answer and its own timing.

If you are selling

If your home sits inside the approved boundary, that is a clear fact you can share. Pair it with the word proposed for the opening date. Buyers value accuracy, and it keeps your marketing on solid ground.

Construction is scheduled to run into 2028, so it is wise to plan showings with that in mind.
