Many families in Berczy and Berczy Glen have children who will reach high school over the next several years. For them, one question keeps coming up: where will those students go?
Berczy Glen Secondary School is part of the answer. YRDSB lists it as an approved growth project with room for 1,301 students, and the Province has committed $69 million to build it. Its proposed opening is September 2030.
This is the furthest out of the five new Markham schools in this series. That longer runway is useful. It gives families time to plan, but it also means many details are still to come.
This post is part of the Kaizen Real Estate Team guide to new schools coming to Markham from 2027 to 2030. Below, Michael John Lau, REALTOR®, sets out the published facts and what they mean if you own, plan to buy, or plan to sell nearby.
Location
In July 2026, the City of Markham circulated a site plan application for Berczy Glen Secondary School on Stony Hill Boulevard, in Ward 2. The application lists the use as an institution.
That is a meaningful step. In December 2025, local reporting said no site had been confirmed. The July 2026 application shows the project now has a proposed location in the Berczy Glen area.
YRDSB has not published an exact civic address yet.

Programs and Specialization
YRDSB has not published any specialized program for Berczy Glen Secondary School, such as French Immersion, International Baccalaureate, arts, STEM or a Specialist High Skills Major.
With a proposed opening four years away, program details may take time. If a specific program matters to your family, plan around what existing schools offer today and watch for an official YRDSB announcement.
Boundary and Catchment
YRDSB has set the boundary review for Berczy Glen Secondary School for Fall 2028. No boundary map has been published.
YRDSB has also not published which current secondary schools the new school will relieve. Families often ask this question, but until the review takes place, any answer would be a guess.
Until then, existing boundaries decide where students attend. To check which secondary school serves an address today, use the YRDSB School Locator. For questions, email YRDSB Planning Services at planning.services@yrdsb.ca.
Capacity and Grades
YRDSB lists capacity for 1,301 students.
Secondary schools in Ontario serve Grades 9 to 12. YRDSB has not published whether Berczy Glen Secondary School will open with all four grades at once or phase grades in over time. That detail matters for families with children entering high school close to 2030, so it is worth watching.
What It Means for Home Buyers and Sellers
A school that is years away should be one part of a bigger decision, not the whole decision.
If you are buying
For children starting Grade 9 before 2030, the current secondary school assignment is what matters. Check the address in the School Locator today. For younger children, the new school is a possibility worth noting, with the boundary to be set in Fall 2028.
Michael John Lau encourages families to plan in stages: today's school, the review in 2028, and the proposed opening in 2030. Each stage brings new information.
If you are selling
If you mention the new school, describe it accurately: approved, planned on Stony Hill Boulevard, and proposed for September 2030, with the boundary not yet set. Avoid suggesting any address will be included. Clear facts build trust with buyers.
